Shoppers are starting to ask AI assistants for product recommendations — and, increasingly, to buy without leaving the chat. For store owners, that means your products need to be readable by AI, and your checkout, stock and order systems need to work when the “customer” is an agent.
What changed in 2026
AI assistants moved from answering questions to completing tasks. Instead of sending shoppers to a search results page, they compare products, check stock and can hand off to a checkout. Stores with clean, complete product data are the ones that get recommended.
Which platforms support it
Support varies by platform and region, and it is changing month to month. In general:
- Shopify — the most built-in options through its catalog and app ecosystem.
- WooCommerce and Magento — usually via product feeds, plugins or a custom integration.
- Wix — via product feeds and connected apps.
Get your product data ready
AI assistants rely on structured data. The basics:
- Complete titles, descriptions and attributes (size, material, compatibility).
- Accurate GTINs, prices and stock levels, updated in near real time.
- Structured data (schema.org) on product pages.
- Clear shipping and returns policies.
This is where AI helps on your side too: we often use it to fill missing attributes and rewrite thousands of descriptions, with a person reviewing before anything goes live.
Checkout & payments
Agent-led checkout depends on your payment provider and platform. Check that your gateway supports the relevant wallets and tokenised payments, and that fraud rules won't block legitimate agent orders.
Stock, orders & your backend
If an AI sells a product you don't have, you have a support problem. Your store, ERP and marketplaces need to share one stock pool, and orders from any channel should flow into the same fulfilment process automatically.
Common gaps we see
- Stock synced only once a day.
- Orders re-keyed by hand into the ERP.
- Product data split between spreadsheets and the store.
Your 30-day checklist
- Week 1 — audit product data and structured data.
- Week 2 — fix feeds and fill missing attributes (AI can help).
- Week 3 — check checkout, payments and fraud rules.
- Week 4 — connect stock and orders across channels; monitor.
